Travel Guide - AiLao Mountain National Natural Reserve

Ailao Mountain Ecology Tourism Zone is situated at the middle section of Ailao Mountains and at the border of Xingping County and Zhenyuan County. About 110 kilometers from the downtown of Xing Ping County, the area is appointed as the provincial nature reserve in 1981 and the national nature reserve in 1983. It is very close to Kuming. Together with the greatest varieties of plants and animals, the zone has the best-preserved plant community of the areas in the same latitude. As an observation post of forest ecosystem and international migrant birds reserveby United Nations, it is an ideal destination for ecological tourism of China trip, science research and exploitation and ethnic culture experience. It has such tourist destinations as Shimen Valley, Ancient Tea-Horse Road, and Jinshanyakou Primitive Forest.

As a branch of Mount Yun, Ailao Mountain was formed during the Quaternary Himalaya Mountain Building Period. When the ground rises, the river sinks, the disparity in height becomes prominent. The Ailao Mountain leans from northwest to the southeast from inner Sajiang River. On the west banks of the river, the Ailao Mountain and Sajiang River are parallel. Here the mountain and river intertwined.



Dadi Rock, the main peak of Ailao Mountain, is located on the border between Zheshi Village and Zhenliu Town, rising 31, 659 meters above the sea level. The mountain, Daxueguo is always surrounded by clouds and mist. With a variety of species and distributions of plants, Daxueguo is valuable in scientific research of climate and geobiology. As the central part of the natural reserve, it is an important base of observation and research of Chinese and foreign scientists. The Damaoer and Xiaomaoer mountains are famous here.


The river bank is an best place for cereals to grow and tropical commercial crops to grow for the many outfans and rock formations. The east area of the river is dissected topography on the verge of southern highland in Yunnan, good for the growing of Yunnan Pine and bubtropical fruit trees. Tourists can enjoy the sunbath in the lank bank of Fuxian Lake (an optional destination foraffordable China tours).

How to get there

From Kunming, you should take a coach bus which takes about 75 minutes to Yuxi. Then go to Da Kai Men (a town in Xingping) by the superhighway. At last, take another 30 kilometer journey to Xingping County. After arrival of Xinping County, you can go to any destination at Xinping Bus Station where contains buses to all the scenic spots.

Tips:

Ailao Natural Reserve is still under development. The road there is not well constructed.
